Not Routinely Funded
Neurostimulation is a low priority treatment. The Norfolk and Waveney Integrated Care Board (ICB) do not routinely commission this treatment and it will only be considered on a case by case basis. This policy does not apply to neurostimulation for indications commissioned by NHS England* or covered by NICE TAs.
Cases for individual consideration
On a case to case basis, patients might be eligible for surgical intervention, in consideration of their exceptionality. The requesting clinician must provide information to support the case for being considered an exception, by submitting an individual funding request.
Note: Some indications are funded in certain circumstances by NHS England in approved centres. Currently, these are vagus nerve stimulation for epilepsy, sacral nerve stimulation for faecal incontinence and urinary incontinence; spinal cord stimulation for highly specialist pain management is detailed in NICE TA159. See: http://www.england.nhs.uk/commissioning/spec-services/key-docs and NICE TA 159.
