Threshold

Patella Resurfacing is only funded by Norfolk and Waveney Integrated Care Board (ICB) during total knee replacement and only for the following indications:

• Patella arthritis, erosion or other deformity, known pre-operatively or discovered intra-operatively
• Valgus deformity of the knee
• Inflammatory arthritis of the knee

Note: Patello-femoral joint replacement (replacing both sides of the patellofemoral joint, leaving the main tibio-femoral in situ) does NOT form part of this policy.

Cases for Individual Consideration

On a case to case basis, patients might be eligible for surgical intervention, in consideration of their exceptionality. The requesting clinician must provide information to support the case for being considered an exception, by submitting an individual funding request.
