Threshold
Norfolk and Waveney Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) will only routinely fund Vertebroplasty for Osteoporosis in the circumstances identified by NICE TA279:
- patients with osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures who have severe ongoing pain after a recent, unhealed vertebral fracture despite optimal pain management
AND
- in whom the pain has been confirmed to be at the level of the fracture by physical examination and imaging
CASES FOR INDIVIDUAL CONSIDERATION
On a case to case basis, patients might be eligible for surgical intervention outside of the above indication with reference to confirmed clinical need, in consideration of their exceptionality. The requesting clinician must provide information to support the case for being considered an exception, by submitting an individual funding request.
In exceptional circumstances funding may be approved on an individual basis, via the agreed CCG mechanism.
